Kyle A. Carr, Ph.D. (he/him) is a Learning Experience Designer in the Center for Digital Innovation in Learning (CDIL) at Boston College. In this role, he works closely with faculty and academic programs to create thoughtful, engaging digital learning experiences that support student learning and belonging. His work includes course and program redesign, strategic support for academic initiatives, the integration of learning technologies, and the development of digital materials that help instructors bring their teaching goals into online and hybrid environments.

Kyle also founded and chairs CDIL’s Inclusive Excellence and Accessibility Working Group, a cross-center community focused on embedding principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) into the Center’s work. The group brings colleagues together to examine how digital pedagogy, learning technologies, and course design can better support the diverse needs of students, educators, and staff. Through this work, Kyle helps advance CDIL’s mission of partnering with the Boston College community to design student-centered digital learning experiences while strengthening the university’s broader commitment to inclusive and accessible education.

Kyle’s approach to learning design is grounded in his experience as a faculty member. He teaches sociology at Boston College, where his courses include Introductory Sociology, Sociology of Health and Illness, Deviance and Social Control, and Artificial Intelligence and the Sociological Imagination. Teaching keeps him closely connected to the day-to-day realities of the classroom and informs the way he collaborates with faculty. He approaches design conversations with an understanding of both pedagogical goals and the practical challenges instructors face.

Kyle holds a B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross and earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Boston College. His research examines how social disconnection across the life course shapes mental health, and his work has appeared in Social Science & Medicine, The Journals of Gerontology, and SSM – Population Health.
