Among business schools at private universities only, the Carroll School placed 9th overall, right behind Georgetown, Notre Dame, and Rice University.

Among business schools in New England, public or private, the Carroll School ranked 2nd, behind only the MIT Sloan School of Management (which placed 2nd nationally). Other schools in the region that registered in the top 50 were Boston University (33rd), Babson (39th), and Northeastern (50th). The University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School was first in the nation.

The specialty rankings threw a sharper light on how peers with knowledge of specific disciplines assess the Carroll School鈥檚 academic departments and programs. Along with Finance at number 7, three other departments ranked in the top 10: Business Analytics (8th), Marketing (9th), and Management and Organization (10th). Added to these were Accounting (11th) and the Entrepreneurship program (14th).

The rankings are compiled as part of the annual undergraduate survey, 鈥淏est Colleges,鈥 which uses a broader methodology that ranges from graduation rates to faculty research to the number of Pell Grant-eligible students. Boston College as a national university ranked 31st, five points above last year鈥檚 ranking and 24th among private universities.
